Netty 5 was active and close to a release (Alpha5) at the time of Spring Framework 6. We added support in #28847 to enable adopters. Unfortunately, the final release never materialized and is not in sight. We are going to remove the integration in 7.0 and revisit if and when Netty 5 gets momentum again.
